Family Dentistry
Family dentistry is a branch of dentistry that focuses on the entire family. Dr. Tris J. Carta has extensive training and experience treating children, teenagers, and adults of all ages. Below are brief descriptions of some of the family dentistry services you can receive at our dental practice.
Common Family Dentistry Services
The bi-annual cleaning and exam are the most basic of dental services because keeping up with your appointments is critical to detecting and treating oral health conditions as soon as possible. When you come in for your exam, one of our dental hygienists uses a handheld instrument to remove plaque and tartar from your teeth. Even when you brush and floss at least twice daily, these substances can be challenging to remove.
Next, our hygienist flosses your teeth and polishes them. We typically take X-rays at every other appointment to provide Dr. Carta with a baseline for your oral health. The hygienist working with you will let you know if you are due for X-rays and snap the pictures before starting your cleaning. After completing all these steps, our hygienist calls Dr. Carta into the treatment room to inspect your teeth and gums. If he notices anything unusual, he will request that you schedule a follow-up appointment on the way out.
Fillings
When a tooth decays, Dr. Carta must remove the decayed portion and add filling material to the tooth. This action prevents you from losing your tooth later due to untreated tooth decay.
Restorative dental procedures
Broken and/or missing teeth are common problems that require restorative dental procedures. Family dentists can just as easily place a crown on a tooth, install a dental bridge, place dentures, or complete oral surgery for dental implants as dentists in other specialties. If you have one of these issues, Dr. Carta will discuss your various treatment options during a personal consultation.
